Elon Musk's social media company X (formerly Twitter) has made a major decision regarding illegal content. The company has clarified that accounts of those posting illegal and obscene content or creating such content using the AI tool Grok will be permanently banned.

X will also cooperate with local governments and law enforcement agencies if necessary. This statement from the social media company comes after a stern warning from the Indian government.

X's new policy on illegal content

According to a PTI report, X's Global Government Affairs account stated that illegal content of any kind will not be tolerated on the platform, especially serious content such as child sexual abuse material.

Such content will be removed immediately, and accounts uploading it will be permanently suspended. If necessary, cooperation will be provided with local governments and law enforcement agencies.

Strict action will be taken against misuse of Grok AI

Elon Musk has clarified that those who create illegal content using Grok AI will face the same penalties as those who post directly. He stated that creating inappropriate images or content using AI is also a criminal offense. Musk stated that the platform's policies will fully apply to content created using Grok.

The Government of India had given instructions to X

On January 2, India's Ministry of Electronics and IT directed X to immediately remove all obscene, objectionable, and illegal content. It specifically directed strict monitoring of content created using Grok AI. The ministry also asked X to submit an Action Taken Report within 72 hours. It warned that failure to comply could result in legal action.

Pornographic content and political reaction

The government had received complaints that fake and obscene images of women were being shared on X. Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi wrote to Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, requesting his intervention on this issue.

The order stated that Grok AI was being used to create derogatory content against women, a direct violation of the law. This has led to increased pressure and action against X.
